October News - Zubatto Syndicate Premiere!

Happy Fall!
It has been a little while since the last newsletter, hasn't it? The lack of updates isn't due to a lack of activity - in fact, quite the opposite. I've been writing up a storm and getting ready for the premiere of my new group, Zubatto Syndicate in just a few short weeks.
"Zubatto Syndicate - what the heck is that?" you may be asking. Well, newsletter-reader, Zubatto Syndicate is my brand-spanking-new 12-piece band that will be presenting equally brand new music on November 5th at Town Hall on 8th Ave and Seneca. It is going to be a big band, but not quite like any Big Band you've heard before. This group combines jazz harmonies with electric instruments, rock, funk and hip-hop grooves, a gaggle of woodwinds and brass and whatever else turns up before November. We are going to make some glorious noise. The show starts at 8pm and is $5-15 sliding scale. The concert is being presented with the support of the City of Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.

More after the jump!
Now, the pitch. If you are in Seattle, I am asking - no, begging - that you come to see this show. And that you bring 3 friends and tell 5 more. Seriously, I need your help. It's going to be amazing and unlike anything I've ever done before. And if I don't get a good turnout, it's unlikely that I will be able to do anything like it again any time soon. This project has been a labor of love for me - I've been writing and arranging new music for months - and I've put together a killer group of players to perform it. The work involved in putting together a group like this is pretty daunting, and the finances are completely absurd. The only way there is going to be more than one performance for Zubatto Syndicate (and I am hoping that there will be many), is if enough people show up and enjoy the show. If you take care of the first part, we'll handle the second.
As I mentioned, I'm very fortunate to have financial help from the City to make it happen. It is very important that you and I show them that they backed a good horse. Not just me, personally, but the Arts themselves. This is an election year in Seattle, and we're going to have a new Mayor very soon. The City needs to see that their support of individual artists is going to good projects that have a big public benefit. Roughly translated, that means plenty of people in the audience. These kinds of programs can't survive unless there is a return on the investment of public dollars. Not a financial return but a people-being-enriched kind of return. And Zubatto Syndicate will enrich the heck out of you.
If you aren't in Seattle - stay tuned. There is a good chance that you will be able to see the concert (or most of it, at least) and I will share the details as soon as I can.
