December News: Recording Update and Fiscal Sponsorship Through American Music Center
Happy November, friends… what? Really? When did that happen? Okay, Happy December!
Oh well. It’s been a super busy few months finishing up the Zubatto Syndicate record but the end is in sight! The recording has been mixed and will be mastered in the next few weeks. Work on the artwork and packaging is moving along and I’m hoping to have pre-order information posted early next month. Which is January. I believe you.
The record sounds amazing. Adam Burd and I spent the better part of a week holed up in his home studio and then at Whiney Cat Audio mixing every song to perfection. Despite Mother Nature’s attempt to use snow to keep you separated from your Zubatto music, we are still right on schedule to get it into production and then, finally, to you.
The big news this month is that the Zubatto recording project now has fiscal sponsorship through American Music Center. Fiscal sponsorship is a service through which a non-profit organization lends its status to another group or individual for legal and fund-raising purposes. There are a couple of big grants for recording projects that happen next year that require applicants to have tax-exempt status or sponsorship through an organization that does.
A nice side benefit of this sponsorship is that you (or anyone) can now make tax deductible donations to the Zubatto recording project (and performances supporting it next year) through AMC. We’re very close to finishing this thing, but we do still need money to make these last steps happen. Along with studio time and the musicians’ fees, production itself is one of the largest costs associated with making this record. If you or someone you know is looking for a last minute tax write-off, please consider making a contribution. Does your company match donations? Help support independent music!
You can learn more about how to give to Zubatto through AMC from my recent blog post about the news.
If you donate by the end of the year, you’ll get your name (or the name of your choice *cough*Holiday Gift*cough*) into the liner notes and I can send you a copy of the CD when it comes out.
Thanks so much for all of your support during 2010. Things are already brewing for next year, including lots of Zubatto performances, more music for Zubatto, some ideas for a small group and a project so secret that [redacted]. 2011 is going to be a great year. Hopefully I won’t miss it like I missed November. I really appreciate all of your continued support and I promise that 2011 will be a great year, kicking off with the release of the Zubatto Syndicate record.
In the meantime, I’m not quite as ahead on my holiday shopping as I thought at the beginning of this newsletter.
Happy Holidays and I’ll see you in January!
