Happy Birthday, Zubatto Syndicate! Reflections on a Two-Year-Old

Posted by in Blog, Zubatto Syndicate

To celebrate Zubatto Syndicate’s second birthday, all merch is 20% off for November. Grab a t-shirt, stock up on CDs or LPs, or buy one for a music-loving friend for the holidays (vinyl makes a great gift!). Just use the code “itsyourbirthdaytoo” at music.zubattosyndicate.com It’s hard to believe that it was two years ago this week that Zubatto Syndicate made its debut at Seattle’s Town Hall on a particularly blustery November evening. For me, the evening was a blur, the culmination of months of work writing, arranging, and rehearsing new…read more

Earshot Jazz: The Second Century Wrap-Up and Master of Puppets

Posted by in Blog, News & Shows, Zubatto Syndicate

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Chapel Performance Space on Thursday night. It was a very warm and receptive crowd and an extremely fun show. The band was in its best form to date, at least from where I was standing, and I think it was one of our most exciting shows yet. It was a treat to finally hear Triptet perform live, especially in that beautiful room. If you have a chance, definitely catch them. You can also hear and download their new record on Bandcamp….read more

Vinyl Fans – We Need You!

Posted by in Blog, Zubatto Syndicate

Almost a year ago, I took to the internets via Kickstarter and asked my friends, family and non-affiliated fans to help out in the production of Zubatto Syndicate’s first recording effort. The response was overwhelming and helped us get into the studio and begin the long process that has led to the release last month of the record. Each milestone has proven to be a unique challenge, but none more so than the pressing of Zubatto Syndicate on vinyl. I knew that releasing on vinyl was going to be a…read more

Zubatto Syndicate Release Party Wrap-Up

Posted by in Blog, Zubatto Syndicate

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Zubatto Syndicate release party on June 11. It was an extremely fun show and it was great to see old friends and make a bunch of new ones too! We played almost the entire record and debuted our cover of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.” Apparently, our version is so heavy that it made it a fellow in the audience fall unconscious off his bar stool. This really happened! He may also have been drinking – it was a party after all….read more

Record Store Day 2011

Posted by in Blog, Zubatto Syndicate

Do you own a turntable? Some of you may laugh at this questions, but some subset of you are nodding enthusiastically or waving some part of yourself in the air in the affirmative. That’s because records are back in a big way. At a time when the music industry is struggling with the shrinking demand for physical media, the sales of vinyl are actually growing and record stores are devoting more and more space to vinyl. A few years ago, I received a brand new turntable for my birthday (best. gift. ever.)…read more

The Great “Hurry Up and Wait”

Posted by in Blog, Zubatto Syndicate

It’s been a couple of weeks now since I digitally released the new Zubatto Syndicate record. I hope everyone has been enjoying the music, and I sincerely appreciate those who have been working to get the word out on our behalf. If you haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, you can hear it (and download it, and pre-order CDs and LPs) at http://music.zubattosyndicate.com. Sales have been steady and we still need as many folks to pre-order it as we can get, in order to fund the last…read more

Digital Decoupling

Posted by in Zubatto Syndicate

While finishing up production on the Zubatto Syndicate record, one of the things I’ve been struggling with is the whole concept of a “release” in the digital age. When the mastering is finished in just a few short days, there is no reason in the world that I can’t just release the record to the world digitally, despite the fact that a physical release (in the form of CD and vinyl) may still be months away and any release performances will have to wait until early Spring at the earliest…read more
