I posted most of these on Facebook already, but I thought I would stick them here as well. Details of the Secret Project should be coming very soon, but in the meantime, here are some photos and a video from our first weekend of recording last month.
To celebrate Zubatto Syndicate’s second birthday, all merch is 20% off for November. Grab a t-shirt, stock up on CDs or LPs, or buy one for a music-loving friend for the holidays (vinyl makes a great gift!). Just use the code “itsyourbirthdaytoo” at music.zubattosyndicate.com It’s hard to believe that it was two years ago this week that Zubatto Syndicate made its debut at Seattle’s Town Hall on a particularly blustery November evening. For me, the evening was a blur, the culmination of months of work writing, arranging, and rehearsing new…read more
It’s been slow news at Boscology HQ for the past few months but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a ton of work going on behind the scenes. I’ve been working on performances for Zubatto, writing new music and making plans for the coming year. The main event is the first real stirrings of the Secret Project, which is finally taking the first steps from the vaguely hypothetical into reality. The secrecy behind the Secret Project exists for a couple of reasons, ranging from my cheeky sense of humor to…read more
I don’t spend nearly enough time on this blog writing about the music of other people, which is ridiculous considering I have so many talented and amazing musical friends. I was reminded of this fact last week when I had the opportunity to see the band Pollens, featuring several of my friends from Cornish College of the Arts – including Hanna Benn and Whitney Lyman – at the Comet. I had heard Pollens’ music before, but seeing the band perform live was a revelation. Giant vocal harmonies on top of electric…read more
Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Chapel Performance Space on Thursday night. It was a very warm and receptive crowd and an extremely fun show. The band was in its best form to date, at least from where I was standing, and I think it was one of our most exciting shows yet. It was a treat to finally hear Triptet perform live, especially in that beautiful room. If you have a chance, definitely catch them. You can also hear and download their new record on Bandcamp….read more
Almost a year ago, I took to the internets via Kickstarter and asked my friends, family and non-affiliated fans to help out in the production of Zubatto Syndicate’s first recording effort. The response was overwhelming and helped us get into the studio and begin the long process that has led to the release last month of the record. Each milestone has proven to be a unique challenge, but none more so than the pressing of Zubatto Syndicate on vinyl. I knew that releasing on vinyl was going to be a…read more
Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Zubatto Syndicate release party on June 11. It was an extremely fun show and it was great to see old friends and make a bunch of new ones too! We played almost the entire record and debuted our cover of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.” Apparently, our version is so heavy that it made it a fellow in the audience fall unconscious off his bar stool. This really happened! He may also have been drinking – it was a party after all….read more
All this week and next, I will be posting a short daily feature on each of the songs on Zubatto Syndicate. There will be some musical info, behind-the-scenes stuff and maybe some insight into the names of the songs. I hope you enjoy it – come back every day for new stuff! Also, all downloads of Zubatto Syndicate will be pay-what-you-like until the release party on June 11. Pay $0, pay $20 – you decide!
In the film “Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts,” the composer gives the filmmakers (and the audience) a peek into his daily life. Early in the morning, he arises, retreats to his studio and works for several hours. His studio space is a beautiful room, with a well-worn grand piano, a large writing surface and stacks of music and books. It is well-inhabited but not cluttered. In interviews and writings, he speaks of the importance of writing every day, and watching his daily ritual, you can see how…read more
